I usually use an electric followed by some touch-up with the same disposable Gillette I’ve been using for months. I grab name-brand razors when I find them on clearance, but that doesn’t happen too often. And razors at the dollar store? Don’t waste your money. But this? For $20 it seems like a good deal:

If only it had a single-blade trimmer!!!

Yeah, at well over $20 k they’re pretty exp ensive but the performance is insane.

I absolutely HATE using electric shavers, I use Dorco 4 blade razor. The blade quality is not as great as Gillettes but it does the job, and it’s much cheaper. I have also deduced from experience that more blades are not necessarily better. 3 blades work perfectly.
$20 for 6 blade+10 catridges https://www.amazon.com/Dorco-Plus-Blade-System-Trimmer/dp/B008O82O7C?th=1
$14.99 for 3 blade with 10 catriges

Turn them pink and you can charge an extra $10!
I ought to pick those up though.

eh? I buy a bag of cheap disposables and shave in the shower.

Electric razors are the worst. I bought that very package, but I haven’t tried them yet. I think Costco is trying to cash in on the Dollar Shave Club idea . The real question will be the quality of the steel. If I’ve got a decent amount of stubble, I can burn through three disposables to get myself shaved. I’m hoping to get multiple shaves out of these blades.

They’re not very good. I just got them and they’re cheap razors.

I get months out of a Gillette fusion blade. So doesn’t bother me to spend a small fortune on thr refills. Definitely a better shave than the dorco equivalent. For me anyway.

Supp osedly if you dry your blade after each use it will last a lot longer. Putting it down with just a rinse or keeping it in the shower is bad for it.

I’m the only person I know with an electric razor. I don’t why more people don’t use them. What’s so great about a .1 mm closer shave and cuts?

Hated electric razers, and shaving in general. I have a very sparse beard, and it's really awful. Got the Norelco Oneblade, and it's AMAZING.

I moved the a Philips One Blade for most stuff. I also shave my head, and it’s nice when I don’t keep up with shaving to be able to do it with no issue after a week of neglect. Still use the blade razor when it’s a daily thing but that’s not often.

I actually use them dry for the post-electric clean up, followed by debris removal with an old toothbrush. In the past, when I used them wet, I would store the blade in a jar of mineral oil, but I don’t know if that really did anything other than to keep rust from forming .
I’ve heard that you can use denim as kind of a strop to clean up the edge after use and this too should extend the life of the blade but I haven’t tried it yet.

Disposable shavers are like cigarettes. I gave them up long ago. Now it's just clippers every couple of months...

$15 for a nice Gillette from the 60s, $20 for 400 de blades.. 10 years ago I started wet shaving after being fed up with modern options.. I haven’t needed blades since.

I have a Dorco P ace 7 and I hate it. Will be thrown out once I get through the refills. Gillette Fusion works much better for me, though admittedly I’m mostly doing lazy shaves with a Philips OneBlade, and then only going to a bladed razor for times when I actually need a close shave.

Came here to post this. Blades are cheaper than EVERYTHING else on the market, and they last forever. I maybe go through three blades a year, and it's an incredibly close shave.

I wish I could do that, and just grow out a thick, luxuriant beard like my dad used to sport . But my appearance is derived more from my mother’s side of the family, and they’re not exactly known for excess follicles. My sister, on the other hand, is more related to our fathers side of the family, and, well, she has certain genes, if you know what I'm saying...

Buy an old school safety shaver for $20 then keep it loaded with Feather blades for cheap.

Seconded.
Bought a 100 pack of blades a few years ago for $10 and still have probably 75 or more left.

I still have to shave the edges, but man does it add up not shaving all of it daily.

I’d probably bleed out during the first attempt, but it’s very intriguing. My barber goes all straight blade on my neck and it seems to work well, but I can barely shave with the normal multi-blade type safety razors (I usually cut myself multiple times) due to poor coordination (long story).

I’m in the head-shaving camp, but I daily a Gillette. One refill lasts a couple of weeks of head and face duty in the shower. Big trick for me is to use soap instead of cream or gel.

I buy a box of 100 blades for $15 dollars and it lasts two years. I swap the blade about every week whether I need to or not. Plus the metal head of the razor stays so nice and warm between rinses.
It’s the business!

I've never gotten mine to work properly. It seems to not cut anything. :(

I use one. They work alright. I've never had any luck with any other sort of razor.

Have you made sure to put a blade in the razor’s head?

There are ways to make
shaving easier. The best is to soften the beard with hot water - a hot towel helps here
. Lubrication is also important, and shaving creams often don’t do a good job at it - hair conditioner works.

If I use a disposable razor I’ll bleed in 5-7 spots without feeling like I cut myself. Then the next day I’ll have a bunch of little pimples. Even if the razor wa s brand new.

I use one of these, uses the same blade as a safety razor, but packs better. I also find it easier to use. I also shave with it dry, which is weird, but works faster and results in less nicks from having soft/wet skin. My brother in-law has one and prefers the safety with tons of shaving cream . My buddy has one and only uses it around his ears and uses cream, soap, or oil . You can get really good Feather or Dovo blades (I like the Feather), but you can also buy SUPER cheap blades online. You can get a longer blade holder and also get longer Dovo blades. I buy them when they come on sale.

Yes. :P
I've tried several blades, and none of them seem to protrude far enough out to cut anything. One of these days I will dig it out and try it again.
![]() 10/30/2018 at 10:20 |

The guard on your razor might be too big for the blade, preventing it from reaching far enough to cut properly. I have the opposite
issue with one of my razors, an old-style screw-handle type, which doesn’t bend the blade enough to put it in the proper angle, resulting in it nicking my skin far too often. My other razor, a butterfly head type
identical to the one in the pic I posted, flexes the blade a bit further and doesn’t have that problem.
